This weeks Bible highlights. What did you think?
by KateWild inleviticcus 14 -16. well i thought most of it was not appllicable for our day and certainly some parts are not appropriate for children.
chapter 14 is about cleansing from leprosy.
i didn't read the verses, i 've read leviticus before.

Avian sacrificial slaughter aside, these are quite understandable rules of cleanliness, in context. To this day it isn't fully understood how leprosy is transmitted, in a world with no drugs it's understandable that many cultures went a little OTT with their rules.
Don't see why the Org can't skip these parts of the OT though, they have no bearing on lives today and are often inappropriate with kids present, not to mention tedious in the extreme!

This particular 'unclean' reference is less to do with the usual emission and more concerned with what we'd label an STI.
But don't worry, the chapter of course goes on to detail uncleanliness levels for run-of-the-mill semen. Thankfully turtledove sacrifice wasn't required for that one, species would have gone extinct pretty damn quick

The Ravings of Trolls Distracts FOCUS From Real Watchtower Scandals
by cofty inmy thread was inspired by gentledawn's insightful comment about the effect the events in wales had on her jw husband.... hope any lurkers out there can filter out the signal (storys and experiences like this) to noise (the current trolls running amok on the forums) ratios.
this the problem with those who focus on outrageous fantasies about the watchtower.
it distracts from the real issues that need to be highlighted.. what happened in wales was for real.

Hooray for this thread, as both a lurker and member I've seen trolls over the last couple years but yesterday was the first time I looked for a 'report thread' button.
The JWN community right now is great, diverse and friendly, long may it continue!

Justvisiting - it seemed this set of witnesses is at the stage where just using a tablet gains them spiritual brownie points, once someone figures out the highlighting trick they'll have to step it up!
I feel for you Desirous, it's no fun having to appease family members, maybe occupy yourself with one of the societies bible-based colouring books? ;p
Mr Phizzy sir, I am shocked that you'd sell out for such a low price, 2 million indeed, and dollars no less!
Being in a comfort zone is exactly right, feeling like the 'truth' might be the fying pan but 'out there' is the fire, when in fact you're just stewing in your own juices. It was an insight going back, but nothing will induce me to do it again.

I recently did just that and had an unexpectedly uplifting experience. No, really!
Whilst on vacay I was informed by my JW friend (only dimly aware of my faded status) that we’d be visiting the local KH I reacted by going to my room and having a silent tantrum, resolving to tell her that um, no, we most certainly were not. But it later turned out she was rather desperate to find a single brother, so I did the non-JW thing and put her happiness above my own
So there I was, far from home, not been to a KH in over a year and heading to the Sunday meeting. Everyone was very pleasant and commented how spiritual we were by attending (me, a closet ‘apostate’, my friend only there to scope out the talent!)
I can’t stress enough how surreal yet reaffirming it was to be there, far from the JW community I was used to, seeing everything with new eyes . First thing I noted was the self-importance the elders exuded. Second were the damned ipads. Around two years ago I was strictly forbidden to read the WT in pdf format at the hall, but now that such things have had the GB kiss of approval, it’s all the rage. No more paragraph highlighting one-upmanship!
The talk was yawn inducing and full of idiotic analogies, nuff said. As for the WT article – I was convinced it was the simplified version! Don’t recall a single thing about the content, try as I might to remember, all that comes to mind is my annoyance at the atrocious ad hoc bible quotes and parroted answers. It wasn’t a spiritual discussion in any meaningful sense; it would appear every soul capable of rational thought has left the writing department.
And then it was over.
Boy, how inconsequential all these increasingly vapid meetings are. It used to be that we were at least comforted/up built by the content, but no more. To have had such a break from attending and be able to observe in a faraway congregation helps draw a line under it all and get some perspective, I thoroughly recommend it!

Atlanta Int Convention 2014:The Big Party. Does this look like WT believes Armageddon is coming "soon"?
by AndDontCallMeShirley inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=potrr2qxhue.
.. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.
instead of preaching and saving people??.

The 'aren't we so blessed' nonsense astounded me, just do a quick Google of Atlanta religious conventions and see how many other faiths are 'blessed' by God (or would that be Satan??) - there's even an interesting article about religious meetings filling a gap in the cities convention economy!
But that tourism slant.... wow...coke, really? one of the biggest of Big Business? The increase in vile hypocrisy and two faced claptrap is truly wondrous to behold. Evangelising works are apparently on hold, they must be doing such a good job lately in the mute trolley bystander field
Thanks for posting, has really got my goat but that's a good thing, means I'm alive and free thinking
